The Papua New Guinea Computer Society hosted its annual PNG ICT EXPO for this year 2016 at the Gateway hotel in Port Moresby on Friday the 8th of September. The Expo featured display booths from well known ICT industry companies and educational institutions, who were delighted to the turn out of eager students, PNGCS working class members and the general public who were there to witness the expo.

In his official opening speech, Mr Edward Silva who is the PNGCS President stated that "The values and ideals to which PNGCS members subscribe include competence, honesty, social implications, professional development, integrity and professionalism. These benefit employers and the community by establishing trusts and instilling confidence in ICT, while enhancing the competence and prestige of the profession."

He also urged all ICT Professionals, students who wish to pursue IT based careers and others  around Papua New Guinea to recognize the importance of being a part of a professional organizational body such as the PNG Computer Society.

Services and products displayed during the expo were mainly from

  • NICTA (National Information & Communication Technology Authority)
  • DATEC
  • ITI (International Training Institute)
  • IBS (Institute of Business Studies
  • PERL (PNG Educational Robotics Lab)

Also during the expo the new PNGCS website was launched by Mr Mick Nades who was previously the PNGCS president, and was pleased to have an updated site finally being launched after months of delay to its initial development. The site was developed by Koi Norum a newly appointed PNGCS Executive member who was a student at the Institute of Business Studies campus studying the Bachelors in IT program offered by the Southern Cross University in Australia. Upon launching he encouraged aspiring students willing to take up IT as a profession to keep working hard and learn to adapt to change everyday, as technology changes every second.

The Expo started at 9:00 in the morning and ended at around 5:00 in the afternoon, and thus it is anticipated that the next expo will be bigger and better.
